【摘要】:ThismethoddirectlydeterminestheconcentrationsofdissolvedPAHconcentrationsinenvironmentalsedimentporewatersamples.ThemethodisimportantfromanenvironmentalregulatoryperspectivebecauseitcanachievetheanalyticalsensitivitiestomeetthegoalsoftheUSEPAnarcosismodelforprotectingbenthicorganismsinPAHcontaminatedsediments.Regulatorymethodsusingsolventextractionhavenotachievedthewidecalibrationrangesfromnanogramstomilligramsperlitreandtherequiredlevelsofdetectioninthenanogram-per-litrerange.Inaddition,conventionalsolventextractionmethodsrequirelargealiquotvolumes(litreorlarger),useoflargevolumesoforganicsolvents,andfiltrationtogeneratetheporewater.ThisapproachentailsthestorageandprocessingoflargevolumesofsedimentsamplesandlossoflowmolecularweightPAHsinthefiltrationandsolventevaporationsteps.ThismethodcanbeusedtodeterminenanogramtomilligramperlitrePAHconcentrationsinporewater.SmallvolumesofporewaterarerequiredforSPMEextraction,only1.5mLperdeterminationandvirtuallynosolventextractionwasteisgenerated.1.1TheU.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(USEPA)narcosismodelforbenthicorganismsinsedimentscontaminatedwithpolycyclicaromatichydrocarbons(PAHs)isbasedontheconcentrationsofdissolvedPAHsintheinterstitialwateror"porewater"insediment.ThistestmethodcoverstheseparationofporewaterfromPAH-impactedsedimentsamples,theremovalofcolloids,andthesubsequentmeasurementofdissolvedconcentrationsoftherequired10parentPAHsand14groupsofalkylateddaughterPAHsintheporewatersamples.The"24PAHs"aredeterminedusingsolid-phasemicroextraction(SPME)followedbyGasChromatography/MassSpectrometry(GC/MS)analysisinselectedionmonitoring(SIM)mode.Isotopicallylabeledanalogsofthetargetcompoundsareintroducedpriortotheextraction,andareusedasquantificationreferences.1.2LowermolecularweightPAHsaremorewatersolublethanhighermolecularweightPAHs.Therefore,USEPA-regulatedPAHconcentrationsinporewatersamplesvarywidelyduetodifferingsaturationwatersolubilitiesthatrangefrom0.2956g/Lforindeno[1,2,3-cd]pyreneto31000956g/Lfornaphthalene.ThismethodcanaccommodatethemeasurementofmilligramperlitreconcentrationsforlowmolecularweightPAHsandnanogramperlitreconcentrationsforhighmolecularweightPAHs.1.3TheUSEPAnarcosismodelpredictstoxicitytobenthicorganismsifthesumofthetoxicunits(TUc)calculatedforall"34PAHs"measuredinaporewatersampleisgreaterthanorequalto1.Forthisreason,theperformancelimitrequiredfortheindividualPAHmeasurementsweredefinedastheconcentrationofanindividualPAHthatwouldyield1/34ofatoxicunit(TU).However,thefocusofthismethodisthe10parentPAHsand14groupsofalkylatedPAHs()thatcontribute95%ofthetoxicunitsbasedontheanalysisof120backgroundandimpactedsedimentporewatersamples.Theprimaryreasonsforeliminatingtherestofthe5-6ringparentPAHsare:(1)thesePAHscontributeinsignificantlytotheporewaterTU,and(2)thesePAHsexhibitextremelylowsaturationsolubilitiesthatwillmakethedetectionofthesecompoundsdifficultinporewater.Thismethodcanachievetherequireddetectionlimits,whichrangefromapproximately0.01956g/L,forhighmolecularweightPAHs,toapproximately3956g/LforhighmolecularweightPAHs.1.4ThetestmethodmayalsobeappliedtothedeterminationofadditionalPAHcompounds(forexample,5-and6-ringPAHsasdescribedinHawthorneetal).However,itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishthevalidityofthetestmethodforthedeterminationofPAHsotherthanthosereferencedin1.1andTable1.Thisst......
